I began my agricultural career before I entered college. Along with cleaning pens and feeding animals, I hauled hay and picked fruit and cotton over the years.
I was born and raised on a farm in Nacogdoches, Texas. In my family, we raised cattle, chickens, vegetables, cotton, and timber.
I am a 3rd generation farmer with a degree in Agriculture from Stephen F. Austin University and have taught Agriculture Science for 32 years. During my time in education, I was the greenhouse manager for ten years and chairman of the Agriculture Science Department for Nacogdoches Independent School District.
For the last 30 years, I have operated and owned a Cow-Calf Farm, and one of my newest adventures is making compost tea.
I retired in 2002 and have been involved in outreach volunteer work for sixteen years.
As a member of International Farmers and Ranchers (IFR), I aim to help small farmers succeed by making them aware of programs that could sustain and improve their land.
The family farm is more than a business; it is a lifestyle and an ideal worth preserving.
